Kia Motors revealed the SP Concept SUV at the Auto Expo 2018. The production version of the SP Concept will be first car the South Korean carmaker will launch in the country. We expect this to happen around the 2019 . By the looks of it, the SUV should rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur.The SP Concept features sharp design elements such as LED headlamp eyebrows, LED tail lights and dynamic turn indicators on the ORVMs. Kia's signature Tiger Nose grille gets a revised look for India as well. Kia says that the concept features a production-ready design and the one coming to Kia showrooms across the country will look a lot like it. Engine options have not been confirmed, though a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol and a 1.6-litre, turbocharged diesel are expected to find their place under the bonnet. Expect the production version of the SUV to be priced in the Rs 10-15 lakh bracket.

he Kia SP Concept previews the company's future compact SUV developed for the Indian market. The Creta's sibling carries aggressive and bold stance. Upfront, the car features slim headlamps that pushed back all the way to middle of wheel arch. It also gets Kia's hallmark tiger-nose grille, sculpted bonnet and aggressive front bumper. There are air-scoops below the headlamps that further add to its sporty character

Enhancing its sporty side appearance are muscular fenders, multi-spoke alloy wheels, sleeker ORVMs and greenhouse areas and flush door handles. There is a rising chrome beltline merging into the tail-light. Round the back, the SUV gets sharp wraparound tail-lamps that connect to the shoulders. It also gets big rear bumper, a faux skid plate and a chrome thin bar on the tailgate that interconnected the tail-lamps. The tapered down roofline further accentuates it a sporty character, while the roof and spoiler are painted in a contrasting colour.

Engine setup of the new Kia compact SUV will be carried over from the Hyundai Creta. That means, there could be two diesel powertrains -a  1.4-litre U2 CRDi and a 1.6-litre U2 CRDi – and a 1.6-litre Gamma petrol unit. The 1.4L and 1.6L oil burners deliver a maximum power of 89bhp with 220Nm of torque and 126bhp with 259Nm of torque respectively. On the other hand, the gasoline unit generates a top power of 121bhp and 151Nm of torque. Kia might also offer a 1.4-litre petrol engine on the SUV. Transmission duties on the car are likely to be performed by a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Kia Motors is aiming to establish itself as a premium brand. The SP concept based SUV is expected to be priced slightly higher than its immediate competitors. With Hyundai Creta & Renault Captur in its sight, it is estimated to be priced between 11 lakh and 17 lakh (ex-showroom)
